In a somber announcement, the world of gymnastics mourns the loss of Geoffrey Geoff Corrigan, the former Assistant Coach of Men’s Gymnastics at the prestigious University of Michigan. Geoff Corrigan, who had also served as an athlete ambassador at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, passed away on December 6, 2023, at the age of 41.

Who was Geoff Corrigan?

Born on November 25, 1982, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Geoffrey’s journey in gymnastics began with a strong foundation. His close ties with his late grandmother, Margie “Gran” Corrigan, and enduring childhood friendships with Russell, Beau, Rocky, and Ben shaped his early years.

Geoffrey Corrigan graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005, leaving an indelible mark in the gymnastics arena. Excelling in the sport, he earned All-American status on the parallel bars and led the team as captain during the 2004-05 season.

After rigorous training under the guidance of Vitaly Marinich at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Corrigan achieved a notable seventh place in the all-around at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, securing a coveted spot on the U.S. Senior National Team. In 2008, he proudly served as the athlete ambassador at the Olympic Training Center.

Geoff Corrigan’s legacy extended beyond his athletic achievements. His 11-season tenure as an Assistant Coach for the University of Michigan’s Men’s Gymnastics Team marked a period of triumph, contributing to back-to-back NCAA and Big Ten Championships. Recognized with the 2013-14 CGA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year award, Corrigan’s impact on the gymnastics community was profound.

In addition to his coaching endeavors, Geoff played a pivotal role in international gymnastics events, coaching Syque Caesar in the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. He also served as the head coach for Syque and the Bengali National Team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
