Dan Rather Opens up about Marriage, Kids and Career in a Candid Interview

Dan Rather has opened up about his enduring marriage and his children in a candid interview. He also shared about his glorious career and his future plans.

The newsman's life has changed over the years. He was able to pursue a career that he loves. He also enjoys his success with his family.

Rather is currently quarantined in his New York home with Jean, his wife of 63 years, as reported by Closer Weekly. As long as his health is good, Rather said he would not quit his career.

NOT SLOWING DOWN

The 88-year-old veteran journalist laughed off retirement plans, saying he wants to go "full-throttle forward." He added:

"I would much rather wear out than rust out."

Rather, who has been in CBS News for 44 years, is set to start the eighth season of "The Big Interview With Dan Rather," his AXS TV show. He is blessed to be part of the news department for a very long time.

HIS KEY TO THRIVE IN THE JOB

Throughout his career, Rather learned the values of modesty, humility, and gratitude. Remaining humble and avoiding ego-boosting situations was his key to thrive in the job.

"It can consume and ruin you. Fortunately, every time I would begin to get bigheaded, family and friends brought me back to being grounded," he said.

Before his rise to prominence, Rather had shown interest in journalism starting when he was young.

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

Rather's career would not be possible without the support of his wife. He said Jean was his main source of inspiration throughout his life and profession.

He also thanked her for raising their children, who have grown into responsible adults. The couple has two children, Robin, 61, and Danjack, 59.

Because of his family's never-ending support, Rather received many honors and Emmy awards. The award-winning news anchor also published several memoirs about his life as a TV journalist, as reported by Britannica.

Rather was born in Wharton, Texas, on October 31, 1931. Before his rise to prominence, Rather had shown interest in journalism starting when he was young, as reported by CNN.

He got a degree in journalism at Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1953. He also went to serve the US army.

Rather was once an editor of the college newspaper and became a journalism professor in the same school. He also worked in a local radio station based in Houston.
