Elijah Schaffer Fired by The Blaze for 'Violating Company Policies'

Publish date: 2024-05-03

Conservative media personality Elijah Schaffer confirmed he was fired from BlazeTV, the right-wing media outlet on which the reporter hosted his "Slightly Offensive" podcast.

On September 20, Blaze Media announced on Twitter that Schaffer's contract had been terminated.

"Following an investigation regarding a recent personnel matter, Elijah Schaffer's employment with Blaze Media has been terminated for violating company policies and standards," the statement read.

The TV host and reporter later confirmed it on the social media app. "Guys it's true, it's been a long time coming, I am no longer an employee with The Blaze. While I am grateful for my experience with them over the years, it's time for me to go back to being independent," he wrote on Twitter.

Neither Schaffer nor BlazeTV explained exactly why the host was fired, and Newsweek has contacted both for comment.

"I am unable to go into details, but I assure you my commitment to the cause is unwavering & I will not stop fighting for you," Schaffer wrote on Twitter. "I am thankful for everyone, especially the SOBs, who have supported me along the way and I can't wait to show you what's next."

While it's unclear why Schaffer has been dismissed by the right-wing media company, only a few days ago the TV host said that BlazeTV was getting closer to Fox News and Infowars.

"The line between BlazeTV, between Fox News and Infowars is getting blurred in the most healthy way possible," Schaffer said, mentioning that Drew Hernandez's Frontlines show on Turning Point USA's was banned from YouTube for "being too extreme."

"It's 2022, folks," Schaffer said on August 12, during an interview with Infowars' The Alex Jones Show. "The time to start fighting your allies has ended. The time for realizing the common enemy and to start pairing together and to focus on the threat has come to the beginning and we need to start and rethink our strategy in our war," he added, saying that conservatives should come together as the left does the same.

Schaffer is known for his incendiary and controversial commentary while on air with BlazeTV and in his personal capacity. He regularly speaks out against LGBTQ+ and trans rights —including "joking" about murdering trans kids— and has been found to make racist, anti-Semitic and misogynist comments.

The TV host was also part of the crowd that took over the Capitol on January 6, though he later played down his involvement. On January 6, 2020, Schaffer wrote a tweet describing the MAGA Capitol mob as "revolutionaries." He posted a photograph on Twitter showing a computer in the Rep. Nancy Pelosi's office with emails "still on the screen," but the tweet has since been deleted.

"BREAKING: I am inside Nancy Pelosi's office with the thousands of revolutionaries who have stormed the building. To put into perspective how quickly staff evacuated, emails are still on the screen alongside a federal alert warning members of the current revolution," the tweet read.

Schaffer later claimed he was there as a journalist and not as part of the group taking over the Capitol.

To clarify, I am not personally involved in the events today in DC

I’m a full time reporter & regularly document chaotic domestic situations to help inform Americans

The occupiers called themselves “patriots” & were chanting “revolution” hence the choice of identifying words

Before the Capitol riots, Schaffer had spread pro-Trump conspiracy theories, including the debunked view that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen.

On his "Slightly Offensive" YouTube channel, Schaffer has a following of around 460,000 subscribers, while BlazeTV's channel counts 1.58 million subscribers.
