Filip Geljo: Young actor on track to becoming a household name in Hollywood

The popular TV series Odd Squad may now be rested, but this educational drama gripped the attention of many children and tickled their fancy. One of the series’ breakout stars was Filip Geljo, who played the role of “Agent Otto”.

He has utilised the fame he got as a teenager and is slowly transitioning into mainstream Hollywood as a young actor. Here is everything you need to know about the young and gifted Filip Geljo.

Filip Geljo was born on April 13, 2002, in Toronto, the capital of the Canadian province of Ontario. He is of mixed ethnicity; with his father, Jasmin Geljo, a famous actor, originally from Bosnia, and his mother being a Filipino. However, his nationality is Canadian and is often referred to as a Canadian-Filipino.

Geljo began his schooling at St. Jean Vianney School and he reportedly fell in love with basketball at a young age and wanted to be an NBA player. He furthered his education at St. Maria Goretti High School, where he got picked for the role of “Lee” in the television series The Last Chance in 2014.

As his acting career took off, he joined Don Montgomery Center, a multipurpose facility that offers a variety of activities and programmes, to refine his acting skills while also focusing on basketball, his first love. He also stated his love for Mathematics and how good he was with the subject.

As mentioned earlier, Geljo is the son of Jasmin Geljo, the Bosnian-Canadian actor who has graced our screens for years and starred in various movies and series such as Land Of The Dead, Cube Zero, Assault on Precinct 13 and The Sentinel. So, it is no surprise that the younger Geljo has acting in his blood. 

Geljo kicked off his acting career in his teenage years, back in 2014. He was first featured in the television series Odd Squad as “Agent Otto”. He acted alongside fellow actors such as Isaac Kragten, Dalila Bella, Millie Davis, and Olivia Prest, That was after his debut role on the television series The Last Chance.

Luckily for him, Odd Squad was broadcast in the same year as The Last Chance in 2014. This spurred him to popularity among kids, and its success would result in him getting further gigs. He landed a role in Igor Drljaca’s biographical drama, The Waiting Room, in 2015, and also starred in a short movie entitled: Shahzard, in the same year. He also got featured in Annedroids, a 2016 sci-fi fantasy drama which aired on Prime Video.

In 2017, the young Geljo auditioned for a role in Avatar: The Way of Water. He was part of the final selection. Margery Simkin, the movie’s casting director, took his audition a few more times before finalising him for the role of “Aonung”. Getting selected for James Cameron’s sequel was a great feat for Geljo. He justified his selection when the movie was finally released in 2022, showcasing his natural ability and his undeniable acting skills.

He, once again, played the role of Aonung in Avatar 3, which is in post-production and is expected to be released in theatres in 2024, as well as in Avatar 4, which is still being filmed.

Geljo’s net worth is estimated to be between $50,000-$70,000. He draws a substantial income from his acting career. He reportedly signed a contract with James Cameron, the director of the “Avatar” film series, to get paid $150,000 for appearing in Avatar 2.
